The lead actor of Colors’ new show Mrs Pammi Pyarelal gives us his take on an ideal life partner..I want a woman like Mrs Pammi as my life partner!

Gaurav Gera has developed a newfound respect for women ever since he began dressing as Mrs Pammi Pyarelal. The actor who loves talking, wearing costumes and doing over-the-top acts says that he has no qualms about playing a woman, but never realised it would be this tough…
The versatile actor claims that playing a married woman is not as easy as it seems. While onscreen Gaurav is married to Karan Goddwani, we find out about his relationship status in real life: “I am single and I don’t have the time to mingle. I am busy with so much work every day. Even in between Mrs Pammi Pyarelal shoots, I go to Delhi for my musical play Jhumroo. So that leaves me with no time for relationships. Plus, I’ve recently had a really bad break-up – it was a long relationship; however, it’s done and over with. So as of now I am not interested and frankly I don’t have the time for it either,” said Gaurav.
So no pressure for marriage? “There’s always pressure from my parents, but I am not ready,” he explained.
Tell us about your ideal partner: “I want somebody like Pammi as my life partner. Pammi is ultra cute as a person. She is loveable, funny and full of life. I love the faces she makes, and she is pretty too. Now I do not mean that I want a male dressed up as a woman – let’s be clear about that!”
The 34-year-old actor definitely has his plate full with work for now, but as they say, all work and no play can make a Gaurav a dull boy! So we cross our fingers in the hope that GG soon finds his Pammi. Right, BollywoodLifers?

The hilarious dialogues from Rohit Shetty's new romcom suggest that the audience will witness a great chemistry between the Om Shanti Om stars…again. Why did Deepika Padukone kick Shahrukh Khan's butt

Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone make an awesome pair and share some rather great chemistry – that is obvious from the dialogue promos of their new Rohit Shetty-directed romcom,Chennai Express. Right from the time when the two are shown fighting with each other, when SRK tells Deepika, ‘Don’t underestimate the power of a common man’, to the line where Dippy tells Khan, ‘Kahaa se churaayi aisi bakhwaas dictionary’ and pulls his leg by calling him a halwai… to the point where Deepika kicks King Khan’s butt because she has a sleep disorder, the twosome rock! And the Baadshah hitting back at her saying, ‘Tere appa ka scooter hu jo kick maarti hai, huh? Tu Don ki nahi donkey ki ladki hai…’ had us rolling around giggling.

And this is just the promo. Imagine what the film in totality is gonna be like! Check out some special moments from the latest scenes of the Rohit Shetty fun flick. We handpicked them for you just to cheer you up on a dreary day. Do let us know which one made you laugh the loudest!

Salim Khan says that while he is proud of his son, he doesn't see ever-lasting friendship between Salman and Shah Rukh Khan

Salman Khan and SRK at iftaar party on Sunday.

So the question everyone’s asking after the Salman Khan-Shah Rukh Khan’s handshake-and-hug is whether this means they will go back to being friends. Will SRK be at parties at Galaxy? Will Salman drop in at Mannat? Salman’s dad Salim Khan, who was present on Sunday evening at the iftaarparty when his son Salman greeted SRK, says he’s proud of his son for making the first move, “I am happy that my son has taken the initiative. It was a sensible thing to do and a much-needed gesture and Shah Rukh reciprocated.”

When asked if the hug would thaw the strained relations between the two warring Khans, he says, “Please don’t give so much importance to it. There are disagreements betweenmiyaan-biwi, neighbours, society and so many other individuals. They (Salman and Shah Rukh) are actors and rivals. Inke problems hote hain aur solve bhi ho jaate hain. I have always maintained that there can never be any love between any two big stars, only courtesy. It is not possible for big stars to love each other. Even stars like Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand and Dilip Kumar were just courteous to each other. Salman and Shah Rukh must have decided to be mature and courteous and that is something that must be maintained.”

Khan feels the so-called patch-up got unnecessary media attention. “Just because they patched up it’s not as if the country’s problems will get solved, no? They hugged each other lekin isse Uttarakhand mein jo ho raha hai, ya Kashmir mein, those problems won’t get solved. Kaande ka bhav toh nahi girega na? The disagreements between stars are not national problems as the media is making it out to be.

It (the Salman-SRK fight) involves an issue between two people and there can be many reasons for that. I have been married to my wife for 50 years and to Helen for 30 years. Even we have problems, but that’s natural, lekin hum log apne galti maanke, we move ahead. If my son and Shah Rukh have done that, it’s a good thing.”

Senior Khan doesn’t want to dwell on why-the-patch-up-happened-now, “They both are self-respecting people. They must have decided to put aside their ego instead of thinking about what hurt them. Maybe they felt foolish behaving in a childish manner and instead decided to behave like mature adults on that day. Media should be talking on much more important issues than this.”

Khan adds that whenever SRK has met him in the last few years, he has always greeted him respectfully, despite his problems with his son, “We are all civilised people and Shah Rukh has always treated me with civility and respect whenever we have met. I am his senior and he has given me that respect. That’s our culture. I met him at the Donpremiere... My other children talk to him. Javed (Akhtar) and I stopped being partners years ago but we are fighting for the rights of Zanjeer together. In the world there is no substitute for love and peace.”

Ranbir Kapoor-Katrina Kaif ready to come out in the open

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor have never admitted to being anything more than co-stars. Though there were pictures of them holidaying abroad recently, their lunch with moms (his and her) in London, they have dodged questions about their relationship and have gone out of the way not to be seen together.

They’d arrive and leave separately at events/parties to continue the carefully-built-charade of being together. On Friday, the duo came together for a special screening of Lootera. Both Kat and RK hadn’t seen the film when it released two weeks ago.

Despite knowing that the papparazzi is usually present, the couple arrived together. While Ranbir was sitting in the front seat with the driver, Kat was behind. She didn’t attempt to cover her face or duck to avoid being clicked, Ranbir too seemed to be in an awfully good mood and even gave the thumbs up sign to the paps. Which raises the question if the pair are finally ready to come out in the open.

D-Day is an acutely accomplished work of art:MOVIE REVIEW

A still from the film

Film: D-Day
Cast: Rishi Kapoor, Irrfan, Arjun Rampal, Huma Qureshi, Shruti Haasan, Sriswara, Aakaash Dahiya, Nasser and Chandan Roy Sanyal
Director: Nikhil Advani
Rating: ****
Fragrant pencils and the stench of blood... Irrfan's character identifies flavoured pencils with his undying love for his son even when his life is soaked in the blood of traitors and other modern-day heroes. Funny, how two entirely disparate experiences can co-exist in a work of art!
And make no mistake, Nikhil Advani's sixth feature film is an acutely accomplished work of art. It's a thriller, yes. About the enforced extradition of a Dawood-like gangster.
But what I came away with was a haunting love story between a mysterious Indian intelligence agent and a Pakistani sex worker, both wounded and scarred for life. She in ways that we can see. He in intangible ways. But pain, at the end of the day, is pain. It's what binds together the sex-worker and the ex-army man.
Shot in an expertly constructed brothel sets with the crowded colours of lurid sex suggesting the tragedy of lives lived in borrowed beds, the scenes between Arjun Rampal and Shruti Haasan are punctured by piercing silences and a haunting melody about love, loss and incomplete lives sung by Rekha Bharadwaj.
Later, much later, the girl is tortured to painful death by a sadistic butcher, gleefully played by Chandan Roy Sanyal.
In one of the most innovative editing techniques applied to a Hindi cinema (editors Aarif Sheikh and Unni Krishnan can take a bow), we see the scarred prostitute's torture and death through Arjun Rampal eyes as though he were there when it happened, when he was not.
And in the background a haunting Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy song Alvida plays with assertive evocativeness, reminding us that the end of love is always death.
The love story could have been the entire script of Advani's film. But D-Day -- odd title since the antagonist is no more named Dawood -- has a lot more to say, and it says it with in a tone of unfussy enrapturing elan that invites us into its midst without using gimmicky methods of enticement.
The screenplay by Advani, Ritesh Shah and Suresh Nair constructs a collage of characters hell-bent on a collision course. Though rigorously researched, the erudition sits easily, spontaneously and unobtrusively on Advani's narration.
The story of a bunch of RAW agents on a mission in Pakistan to nab "India's Most Wanted" is told in a tone that favours a detached distance from the proceedings while ensuring we see each character's life in prismatic close-ups.
Though a deeply patriotic film, D-Day indulges in no flag-waving. The Indian flag makes one guest appearance, and that too at the end. God bless Manoj Kumar.
Every character in D-Day, even the dreaded caricatural Bhai (the don named, ha ha, Goldman), is a prisoner of his own lost dreams and aspirations.
The RAW heroes are thrown in our face without elaborate preamble. The very attractive Huma Qureshi as the RAW agent Zoya has her personal life in shambles. But we never see her unhappy husband. We only hear him. And we're happy that he speaks about their distressed relationship in the voice of the very talented Raj Kumar Yadav.
Every character, visible or invisible, speaks to us in urgent desperate tones. And within 20 minutes of the playing-time we're consumed by these doomed lives that seem to have lived on the edge forever and have nowhere to go except the abyss.
With astonishing impunity Advani sketches half-finished all his characters. These are people whose dreams can never come true.
The film's deep affinity to the business of unfinished lives gives a cutting edge to Advani's narration. As the plot progresses, the narration gets only more and more involving and intriguing until from Karachi we reach breathlessly to the Indian side of the Indo-Pak border where Rishi Kapoor gives a sneering contemptuous speech on the Indian government's inability to control terrorists and terrorism.
This is as good a place as any to say D-Day is crammed with remarkable actors furnishing the anxious proceedings with a riveting life-force.
Rishi as the gangster is, of course, first-rate. When is he anything less? While conveying the sinister slimy side of the gangster, Rishi also gives a comic interpretation to the rotund goggled perpetrator of mayhem. Yup, this guy is having himself a blast.
The other actors too are entirely in their element. Arjun and Shruti's tragic love story is played by the actors in muted mellow muffled shades. Arjun seems to become a more evolved actor with every role. As for Irrfan, his portrayal of a man on a suicidal mission trying to hold on to the memory of his wife and son is so vivid you can touch his anguish.
Newcomer Sriswara is extremely credible as Irrfan's wife, while Huma as the third member of the RAW team is effortlessly appealing and effective.
Newcomer Akaash Dahiya as the fourth RAW team-member is so much on the edge, you want to hold him back from toppling over.
The cinematography by Tushar Kanti Ray uses cluttered garish spaces to create a sense of spiritual emptiness during times of tremendous stress and anxiety. This is a film with world-class action scenes. But it is not an action film. It's a film about love and loss. But it isn't a love story.
So what is it we are looking at here? Go find out for yourself. With this one film, Advani joins the ranks of the most accomplished young filmmakers of Hindi cinema and by far Karan Johar's Dharma Productions proudest product.

Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan hug each other at iftaar party

Shah Rukh and Salman Khan shook hands in an Iftar party on Saturday night.

Shah Rukh and Salman Khan shook hands in an Iftar party on Saturday night.

Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan shook hands at Baba Siddique’s Iftar party on Saturday night. This is the first time in the last five years that both the Khans’ have acknowledged each other’s presence.

Shah Rukh Khan and Salim Khan were seated at the chief minister’s table, along with other ministers and important guests. The Dabangg actor walked around the table greeting people. When Salman reached Shah Rukh’s side, one could feel the tension in the air. Everyone waited with baited breath to see what would happen next. SRK kept a straight face and looked ahead to avoid an awkward moment. That’s when Salman tapped him on his shoulder and extended his hand for a shake. SRK got up and hugged him.

Suddenly there was an excitement and everyone around began clicking pictures. A source present said, “They did not speak after that. If Salman had ignored only Shah Rukh at the table, it would have been very uncomfortable for everyone present at the Iftar party. It was really gracious of him to make the first move. SRK, was quick to react with a warm smile and a genuine hug.”

Vidya Balan pairs up with Farhan Akhtar in Shaadi Ke Side Effects:Biwi O Biwi

Stills from Shaadi Ke Side Effects and (below) Ghanchakkar.

Vidya Balan is gearing up to play the Missus once again. Marriage has been a major part of Vidya Balan’s life lately. First came Kahaani(2011) in which she played the role of pregnant wife in search of her husband’s killer. On December 14, 2012, she tied the knot with producer Siddharth Roy Kapoor. Then cameGhanchakkar (2013).

About playing a housewife in the film, she says, “When I signed Ghanchakkar, people asked me why I wanted to play a housewife since it all sounded very boring. But I don’t think housewives are boring... they run their houses, which most of us tend to underestimate, and they also find ways to entertain themselves.”

In her next release Shaadi Ke Side Effects (sequel to Pyaar Ke Side Effects) she plays a married woman once again. Here’s looking at the differences in her character from her last film from the one in her next...

Ghanchakkar: VB’s character was loud, boisterous and temperamental. She played a Punjabi housewife, married to (Sanju) Emraan Hashmi.

Shaadi Ke Side Effects
: In this one, Vidya plays a smart, stylish, modern woman, who works in an ad agency, and is married to a Bengali guy called Sid Roy (Farhan Akhtar).

G: She played a housewife, who was a former con. She is pushy and ambitious and urges her husband to pull the one big con after which they can retire.

SKSE: She plays a working woman who gives up her work after a baby. Her priorities are in the right place and she’s a good mother.

G: She dressed in outlandish outfits in loud colours and wore horrendous OTT accessories.

SKSE: Vidya will be seen in stylish and sexy outfits in light, breezy colours. Her look was worked on by producer Rangita Nandy and stylist Jayati Bose, for months, till they finally came up with the right one.

G: The curvacious actress piled on more pounds to suit her character. A south Indian, shelearnt to speak Punjabi for the role.

SKSE: Vids has lost almost 12 kgs before she started shooting.

Post-Ghanchakkar, she followed a strict diet and exercise regimen to shed all the weight she had put on. She speaks Bengali fluently, so that she didn’t have to work on.

G: While Vidya has done a TV show (Hum Paanch) she had never done a comedy role. This was her first attempt at the funnies on the big screen. It didn’t really work.

SKSE: This light-hearted romcom revolving around a husband-wife relationship; seems to be more audience-friendly from her last cinematic outing.

Comedian Mel Smith dies suddenly at 60.The death was announced in a statement on behalf of Smith's wife Pam by his agent Michael Foster.

Mel Smith.

His former colleagues from Not the Nine O'Clock News paid tribute on Saturday to the comedian Mel Smith, who has died of a heart attack at the age of 60.
Griff Rhys Jones, who worked closely with Smith over several years, said last night: "Mel was a force for life. He had a relish for it that seemed utterly inexhaustible. He inspired love and utter loyalty and he gave it in return.
"I will look back on the days working with him as some of the funniest times that I have ever spent. "We loved performing together. He was a gentleman and a scholar, a gambler and a wit. And he was a brilliant actor. But he never took himself or the business too seriously. We are all in a state of shock. We have lost a very, very dear friend."
Rowan Atkinson, who worked with the comic on both Not the Nine O'Clock News and the first Mr Bean film, which Smith directed, said he was "truly sad" to hear about his death.
"Mel Smith - a lovely man of whom I saw too little in his later years," he said. "He had a wonderfully generous and sympathetic presence both on and off screen. He was also an excellent theatre and movie director, doing a wonderful job on the first Mr Bean movie. If you direct a comedy movie that takes $245?million at the box office you've done something pretty special, and I never thought he was given enough credit for this success."
The death was announced in a statement on behalf of Smith's wife Pam by his agent Michael Foster. It said: "Mel Smith, comedian and writer, died on Friday aged 60, from a heart attack at his home in north-west London."
Smith, was born and raised in Chiswick, west London, where his father owned a greengrocer's then a bookmaker's shop. He attended Latymer Upper School before going on to New College, Oxford. He joined the university's dramatic society, which appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe.
The society shared a venue with the Cambridge Footlights, where Smith was spotted by the producer John Lloyd, who went on to cast him in Not The Nine O'Clock News, which began in 1979. Smith initially earned pounds 100 per episode.
Lloyd said last night: "I first saw him at the Cambridge Review and when I came to cast Not The Nine O'Clock News I knew straight away I wanted him in it.
He knew what made something funny. It's a great loss not just as an amazingly talented guy but also as a friend." After the series ended in 1982, he performed with Griff Rhys Jones in Alas Smith and Jones. In 1981, the pair founded Talkback Productions, which has produced several successful comedy shows of the past two decades, including Da Ali G Show and I'm Alan Partridge.
In 2000, the company was sold to Pearson for pounds 62?million. In 1987, he recorded a cover of the Christmas song Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree with Kim Wilde for Comic Relief which reached number three in the charts.
Smith also starred in the comedy film Morons From Outer Space and directed Emma Thompson in The Tall Guy. He also played serious roles. He appeared at the 2006 Edinburgh Fringe festival in Allegiance, a play by the Irish journalist and author Mary Kenny about Churchill's meeting with the Irish nationalist leader Michael Collins in 1921.
The following year Smith directed the West End revival of Charley's Aunt. Smith had suffered from poor health in recent years, but said he was unable to stop working.
In December 2008 he appeared on Celebrity Mastermind, despite suffering from severe pharyngitis, an inflammation of the throat. For several years Smith had been addicted to painkillers after using them to deal with gout.
Tributes have been paid to the performer from some of the leading figures in television. Peter Fincham, the ITV director who was the business partner of Smith and Jones at Talkback, as well as their agent, said: "He had extraordinary natural talent with the rare gift of wearing it lightly.
"Mel and Griff were one of the great comedy acts and it's hard to imagine that one of them is no longer with us." Tony Hall, the BBC's director general, said: "Mel Smith's contribution to British comedy cannot be overstated. On screen he helped to define a new style of comedy from the late 1970s that continues to influence people to this day."

B-Town's newest couple,Arjun Kapoor - Alia Bhatt

Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt

Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt .....
The party was at my uncles place and there were many people invited... Alia is my co-star in Two States so we have become friends and end up attending parties and events together the way friends do... Arjun Kapoor

Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt are dating each other. The two met on the sets of their film Two States.
They have been together for few months now. There have been whispers in the industry about the Kapoor boy and the Bhatt girl, but it is only after Sanjay Kapoor’s house party last week that their little secret came out of the bag.
Alia and Arjun were very cosy at the party and kept disappearing into a corner every now and then on the pretext of talking on the phone. This did not go unnoticed by the guests, especially by the industry wife with whom Arjun has been linked for the past few years. She looked visibly upset at this bonding.
The duo seem to be quite open about their fondness for each other. Their first outing was the screening of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, but everyone assumed it was just two co-stars/friends hanging out together. Last week, Arjun who was shooting for the climax of Gunday, came to drop Alia for a special screening of D-Day. After which he went for his shoot.
Alia was Arjun’s only co-star to be present at Sanjay’s bash. They arrived together but when it was time to leave, he dropped her to her car and went back upstairs. Says a source present, “The Kapoor family is aware of this budding relationship, which is why Alia was present at the party. She came as Arjun’s plus-one. None of Arjun’s other co-stars like Priyanka, Parineeti and Anushka were present. It was strictly a family and close friends affair, so Alia’s inclusion is the writing on the wall. Even the Bhatts are aware of this love story and they approve.”
However, Arjun maintains the ‘close friends’ status, “Alia is my co-star in Two States so we have become friends and end up attending parties and events together the way friends do.”

The rise and rise of Priyanka Chopra,PRIYANKA CHOPRA'S WALLPAPERS'

As Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, who bagged all awards this year for her performance as an autistic girl in Barfi!, turns 31 on Thursday, here is a look at her professional and personal life.

Aditya Chopra-Rani Mukherji to tie the knot in January 2014

Rani Mukherji

The news of Rani Mukerji’s wedding to Aditya Chopra has been announced many times by the media, over the years. But this time it looks like the real thing. A source from the industry swears, “Rani will get married in grand filmi style to Yash Raj Films scion Aditya Chopra in January 2014. The couple is finalising the date according to the shubh mahurat decided by Aditya’s mother Pamela in consultation with the family priest.”

The last time

The wedding was to take place last year. Says an insider, “Yashji fell sick during the making of the film (Jab Tak Hai Jaan) and the dutiful son took over the reigns. He was in London for the better part of the year, as was Rani. This being a big film as Chopra Sr was returning to the big screen after a long break. He wanted energies to be focused on the film and nothing else, so the wedding was put off till after the release of the film.”

Till ‘death’ do us part
Her last full-length commercial film Aiyya released in October 2012 and JTHJ had a November release. The stage was set but Yash Chopra passed away a few days before the release. The wedding which was planned for 2013 had to be deferred by a year. Adds an insider, “According to Punjabi customs, no festivities or celebrations take place till after a year of death of a family member.
The 365 days following the demise of a close relative is called an impurity period.” After completing more than a year of mourning, Adi and Rani will be getting married in January 2014.

Filmi chakkar
Rani had only one release last year — a bit part in Karan Johar’s Mumbai Talkies. A factor adding fuel to the speculative fire is that Rani hasn’t signed any new film. The one with YRF, Mardaani (directed by Pradeep Sarkar) doesn’t count. The shooting, the schedule and release date are all controlled by Adi, and can be moved to suit the couple. Mardaani is said to the actress’ curtain call after which she is expected to retire from films and help her hubby run the studio that he has built almost single-handedly.

My brother ki shaadi

Pamela wants her son to set a wedding date next year because she feels it is also time her younger son Uday settles down. Uday is the same age as Hrithik and Abhishek, who have their own families. Uday is very serious about Nargis Fakhri and is keen to formalise their relationship. But unless the elder brother gets hitched, the younger one can’t announce his honourable intentions.

Shilpa Shetty can't wait to be back

Shilpa Shetty
Shilpa Shetty Kundra who’s been in her London home for the last two months can’t wait to get back. There have been reports of how the couple left the country to get away from the spotlight following the IPL spot-fixing scandal. Now that things have quietened down on that matter, the timing is just right. Cricket will be on the backburner for now, as she gets busy with the post-production of her maiden production venture,Dhiskyaoon, starring Harman Baweja.

Rishi Kapoor now on weight loss spree

Rishi Kapoor in a still from D Day.

The rotund Rishi Kapoor, currently going through what he calls the best years of his acting life, has finally decided to take his weight issue into his hands. He is doing yoga, and hopes he can "kick" away his alcohol intake.
Apparently, Rishi, with notable help from his diet-conscious wife Neetu Singh, wanted to shed the flab a year back. But director Nikhil Advani had a particular girth in mind for Rishi to play an international terrorist in D-Day.
But now the 60-year-old has become seriously weight conscious.
"Yes, I've already started doing yoga. That gives me peace of mind. I'm unhappy about the fact that I can't kick my habit of consuming alcohol. It's not good for my health. That's one thing I'd like to change in my life. And I will," said Rishi.
"I'd also like to cut down my weight. But my producers get worried about the continuity in their films. 'Please finish my film and then lose weight'. they say. Uss chakkar mein nahin ho raha hai (That's why I'm being unable to lose weight). But now I'll certainly take care of my weight," he added.
Rishi is getting rave reports for his performance in D-Day, which released Friday.
"It feels good. I know it's happening quite frequently these days," he chuckled, and added: "I've waited very patiently for this rush-hour. I am getting the variety of roles that I always craved for. If in D-Dayyou see me as a terrorist, in Maneesh Sharma's Shuddh Desi Romance, you'll see me as a Marwari wedding planner."
Rishi has a total of seven releases in 2013.
"I must tell you, some people close to me disapproved of my presence in Housefull 2. Some felt this was not my forte, but I wanted to prove that I could do equal justice to my villainous character inAgneepath and the goofy dad's role in Housefull 2. I enjoyed myself doing that part," said the actor, who is the father of current heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor.
On the career front, Rishi has been going through a continued spell of success with films like Student Of The YearJab Tak Hai Jaan and Chashme Buddoor doing well in a row.
"I did one scene for Yashji's sake in Jab Tak Hai Jaan. I haven't seen the film. But I'm told that scene is very important to the film," he said.
About the current boom-time in his career, Rishi said: "I don't know whether it's because of the multiplex culture, but I've been saying no to more films lately than I've ever done in my life. Or maybe other younger actors are not available. Why else would an actor of my age get so many pivotal roles?
"The only 60-plus actor in our industry who was doing main roles was Mr. Bachchan. In my earlier days, no one gave me a chance to experiment with my looks and my character. I was only made to sing songs and romance pretty girls. I'm doing performing parts only now. We were all trapped in our respective images in the 1970s and 1980s. Even Mr. Bachchan was mostly doing action roles."

Framing of culpable homicide charge against Salman Khan likely on July 24

Actor Salman Khan leaves the sessions court after the hearing of his hit-and-run case on Friday.

Actor Salman Khan on Friday attended a sessions court hearing where he was informed that the court would likely frame charges against him on July 24, after it upheld a lower court’s order to enhance the rash driving charges to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

While arguing the filing of charges, the counsel for state, advocate Shankar Erande pointed out to the court that the actor had full knowledge about the topography of the place where he was driving, but even then, he had been ignorant.

Advocate Erande maintained that at time of the accident, the actor had almost 60mg of alcohol in his blood, thus proving the prosecution’s case that the actor was under the influence of alcohol.

After the prosecution completed its arguments, Khan’s counsel, advocate Srikant Shivde, maintained that the case cannot be made out to be a case of culpable homicide.

“The court has already dealt with the charges. No case is made out under section 304. I am not pressing for a case of discharge,” he said.

Further, the defence counsel as well as the prosecution opposed the application filed by advocate Abha Singh, pleading the court to allow her to be an intervenor in the case. The defence counsel maintained that the intervenor is not even a victim in the case and hence can’t argue or participate in the arguments.

Film Review: Ramaiya Vastavaiya is an ode to over-the-top love stories of the 90s

Film: Ramaiya VastavaiyaCast: Shruti Haasan, Girish Kumar, Sonu Sood, Vinod Khanna, Poonam Dhillon, Randhir Kapoor, Govind Namdev, Satish Shah, Zakir Hussain, Nasser, Sarfaraz Khan, Mushtaq Khan and Paresh Ganatra
Director: Prabhu Deva
Rating: **1/2

What’s it aboutAn ode to over-the-top love stories of the 90s where a village setting becomes the backdrop for a casteist boy-girl romance whose end is known but the journey to that point is laden with heavy duty dialogues, emotional upheaval and the mandatory supporting characters — a buffoon , a zamindar, and a goddess temple perched atop a hill.

Prabhu Deva mixes these yesteryear ingredients to dish out a formulaic film with melodious tunes and some enjoyable light moments.

Ram (Girish) and Sona (Shruti) play lovers separated by the overused ameer-gareebboundary. He’s the rich spoilt brat from Australia while she’s a village belle whose clay horse toy and her brother (Sonu) mean the world to her!

The first half has some fun and frothy situational moments, while post interval Prabhu ups the ante with Ram having to prove his love by meeting the challenge of harvesting double the crop farmed by her brother.

This linear story deviates several times with some of the most loud characters and silly slapstick jokes of recent times.

What’s hot
Girish Kumar’s introductory surf board scene is an antithesis of his on-screen character.

Strangely that works in his favour. He has a childlike effervescence which might seem a bit odd and annoying in the beginning, but with time that becomes the reason for his likeability.

He has a promising future, but we don’t know if this was the right debut vehicle.

Shruti has an easy going charm about herself in her interactions with Girish. Even though they don’t have remarkable chemistry, you can sense her putting in that extra effort to hard sell their jodi.

Music is above average, with the Jeena Laga Hoon track already topping charts.

Sonu Sood and Vinod Khanna look their part, especially the former who doesn’t seem out of place in a rustic setting.

Prabhu Deva’s guest appearance with Jacqueline in her item song adds the right zing post interval.

What’s not
There is a sense of disconnect between the first and second half. Some scenes are stretched beyond requirement (bathtub and the dog encounter, long introduction to Sonu’s character, MMS leak moment at the wedding).

The storyline is very reminiscent of the 1998 Salman-Kajol starrer Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya.

Humour takes a severe beating with funny scenes between Girish and Paresh Ganatra looking like amateur episodes from a failed standup comedy show (a character pees on Zakir Hussain’s face!).

Also the climax with the thunder claps and throwback background sound effects falls flat. There isn’t enough classic courting or romantic scenes between the leads.

For a greater duration they are reduced to playing the clichéd ‘love me-hate me’ cat and mouse game.

To watch or not to
If old school, loud and over-dramatic romance is your thing, then Ramaiya Vastavaiya is the ticket to buy!

A person's personality makes them sexy: Nargis Fakri,Actress Nargis Fakhri lets in on her beauty tricks.

Nargis Fakri

What’s in your make-up bag?
I use La Mer for my skin and eyes. I like it because I have dry skin.

What’s your skincare and haircare routine?
I need a beauty regime that guarantees results. A 20- minute deep conditioning treatment with hot coconut-based hair oil really works for me as it locks in the moisture, and keeps my hair soft and smooth. It gives my hair the gloss I need to get a finished look every day. Hydrating my skin with natural ingredient-based moisturisers is a must, along with sunscreen lotion.

What’s your go-to beauty look for a red carpet event?
I either like defined eyes and bare lips or vice versa, bright lips and less eye make-up.

What do you think is sexy, beauty-wise?

I think a person’s personality is what makes them sexy. It’s something you can’t see, it’s the aura that they exude...

What product do you turn to for a beauty boost?
I use witch hazel with aloe vera to wipe away dirt but also add moisture.

What is your monsoon must-have beauty product?

My spa wipes — little handy face wipes with spa water, to wipe away the dirt and keep me feeling fresh and coconut oil for its conditioning benefits.

Do you have a signature fragrance? Where do you like to spray it?
Romance by Ralph Lauren for day, and Gucci Rush for night but also loving Narciso Rodriguer Her.

Your fave lipwear, mascara, and compact and foundation ...

Lipstick/lip balm Burt’s Bees, Mascara voluminous by L’Oreal, Armani foundation

Do you gravitate toward a lip colour and if so, which shade?

Hot pink like MAC Embrace Me

Do you switch up your make-up based on your hair colour?

If I ever change my hair colour, it would not be based on that. I wear what I like when I feel like.

Do you think it’s important to stick with a signature look?

No, I think it’s better to experiment and try new things.

Are you good at applying your own make-up?
Yes! I learned so much in the six years of modelling and working with some of the world’s best make-up artists.

Have you ever had any beauty disasters?
Yes. Not matching my under eye concealer and looking like a raccoon but with whiter eyes.

What’s your ultimate beauty tip?
Stay positive and love yourself. A positive mental attitude can do more than any concealer can. All your thoughts and feelings show on your face, so strive to be a happy and loving person.

What’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever received?
My non-negotiable hair ritual is a 20-minute deep conditioning treatment with Parachute Advanced hot oil. It solves all my hair care needs in a jiffy, ensuring gorgeous hair always.

One beauty elixir you can’t live without...
Coconut oil.

Shruti Haasan's double act,The actress' two releases this week could harm both the films

Shruti Haasan

Kamal Haasan’s daughter has unknowingly triggered off a war of nerves in the film trade. This Friday she appears in two Hindi films simultaneously. While in Prabhudheva’s Ramaiya Vastavaiya she plays a sweet innocent girl in love, in Nikhil Advani’s D-Day she plays the hard-hitting role of a prostitute. Quite a cultural and moral shock for the audience, and a clash that the team behind both the films desperately wanted to avoid.

Says Nikhil, “They were supposed to release on a different dates. When I heard they were releasing on the same day I immediately messaged the producer.

However, there was no response. More than anything else, audiences will be shocked to see Shruti transform within one Friday so drastically. But they are mature enough to take that king of change.” However, Prabhudheva has another story to tell. “We tried to talk to the D-Day team. But nobody was willing to listen.

They’ve worked as hard on their film as we have. I am praying for both the films.”
