Dilip Kevad, 22, regrets dozing off at Bandra’s Bhabha Hospital on the night of July 30. When he got up, his father, who was admitted to the hospital, was not there on the bed and is still untraceble.

“My father was sleeping when I dozed off. At 6am when I suddenly woke up, he was not there,” said Dilip, a Bandra resident.

Around 15 days ago, Dilip admitted his father Banarasi, 65, to Bhabha Hospital for a hand fracture and he underwent an operation. “He has been suffering from memory loss for the last eight years and was on medicines. While admitting him, we had informed the hospital staff about my father’s condition,” said Dilip.

What’s worse, there was no security guard at the hospital gate. The hospital is refusing to share the Closed-Circuit Television Camera (CCTV) footage which may help Dilip get a clue about his father. A case has been registered at the Bandra police station.

The family used to take turns to be with Banarasi at the hospital and ensured he was monitored 24x7. “We slept only after he did. The staff is vigilant but I am surprised that on the night of July 30, there was not a single security guard at the hospital gate. No one saw him leave the ward and hospital. He was wearing the hospital dress and was on a saline drip. His hand was plastered,” said Dilip.

Dilip goes to the hospital every day, hoping to get some news of his father. “We asked the hospital authorities to help us with the CCTV footage of that night but they refused,” said Dilip.

He said the hospital refused to own up to its poor security arrangement. “They asked us to write an application for procuring the CCTV footage. When we did so, they said the footage got deleted and was not available,” he added.

Dr Pradeep Jadhav, medical superintendent, said, “We are looking into the matter and are not in a position to comment right now.”
