Aditya Chopra-Rani Mukherji to tie the knot in January 2014

Rani Mukherji

The news of Rani Mukerji’s wedding to Aditya Chopra has been announced many times by the media, over the years. But this time it looks like the real thing. A source from the industry swears, “Rani will get married in grand filmi style to Yash Raj Films scion Aditya Chopra in January 2014. The couple is finalising the date according to the shubh mahurat decided by Aditya’s mother Pamela in consultation with the family priest.”

The last time

The wedding was to take place last year. Says an insider, “Yashji fell sick during the making of the film (Jab Tak Hai Jaan) and the dutiful son took over the reigns. He was in London for the better part of the year, as was Rani. This being a big film as Chopra Sr was returning to the big screen after a long break. He wanted energies to be focused on the film and nothing else, so the wedding was put off till after the release of the film.”

Till ‘death’ do us part
Her last full-length commercial film Aiyya released in October 2012 and JTHJ had a November release. The stage was set but Yash Chopra passed away a few days before the release. The wedding which was planned for 2013 had to be deferred by a year. Adds an insider, “According to Punjabi customs, no festivities or celebrations take place till after a year of death of a family member.
The 365 days following the demise of a close relative is called an impurity period.” After completing more than a year of mourning, Adi and Rani will be getting married in January 2014.

Filmi chakkar
Rani had only one release last year — a bit part in Karan Johar’s Mumbai Talkies. A factor adding fuel to the speculative fire is that Rani hasn’t signed any new film. The one with YRF, Mardaani (directed by Pradeep Sarkar) doesn’t count. The shooting, the schedule and release date are all controlled by Adi, and can be moved to suit the couple. Mardaani is said to the actress’ curtain call after which she is expected to retire from films and help her hubby run the studio that he has built almost single-handedly.

My brother ki shaadi

Pamela wants her son to set a wedding date next year because she feels it is also time her younger son Uday settles down. Uday is the same age as Hrithik and Abhishek, who have their own families. Uday is very serious about Nargis Fakhri and is keen to formalise their relationship. But unless the elder brother gets hitched, the younger one can’t announce his honourable intentions.
