The monsoon rain in 2013 unleashed nature's fury in India as the states of Uttarakhand, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh faced devastating floods in the months of June and July.
The situation inUttarakhand was so grave that political parties suggest the government declare an emergency. With rescue operations that included the armed forces and media coverage the situation was controlled and many were rescued.
In Himachal Pradesh, CM Virbhadra Singh was also one of those who were stranded in flood-hit Kinnaur district of the state. The tourists had to be airlifted from the area.
In Assam, 1.1 lakh people in 11 districts were affected as incessant rain lashed the state. The Brahmaputra was flowing above the danger level.
The state of Andhra Pradesh has seen the setting up of about 100 relief camps across the state and air-dropped food packets being given to people affected by heavy rains and floods even as the situation in East and West Godavari districts remain grim as of July 22.
In Uttar Pradesh, 700 villages were inundated by floods on July 11 as 120 people died in the floods across the state.
The two months of June and July have seen massive devastation in India due to the floods with many people and cattle losing their lives. People across the country will be hoping that the months of August and September see rain in abundance and not excess.
