Rohit Shetty received a letter from Sanjay Dutt, who is currently serving a sentence in the Yerwada Jail. Dutt, learnt from his wife Manaayata that Rohit — Bollywood’s highest paid director today — had agreed to do a film for Sanjay Dutt Productions. Although Rohit, whose Chennai Expressreleases this Eid, is not free to do the film for the next two years, he has committed to do a film for Dutt, after he wraps up his other projects.
Says an insider, “Sanju had worked with Rohit in All The Best, and they bonded almost immediately. Rohit doesn’t make friends easily. It helped that Dutt was friends with Ajay Devgn, who is like an elder brother to Rohit. Maana bhabhi has been trying to rope in big directors for their banner. She approached Rohit who immediately said yes. When Sanju heard about his confirmation, he wrote him a long emotional letter thanking him for supporting him in his time of need.”
Rohit believes that Dutt has a lot of working years ahead of him. He sees Dutt coming out of the prison, and continuing his film career, and doing strong cameos like Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor. Both these actors, though years older than Dutt, are going through one of their best post-hero phases, with the crème de la crème of roles coming to them. The source adds, “By the time Rohit finishes his present commitments, Sanju baba will be out and we will see them in a film together.”
